Play this interesting mod for Quake 3 featuring unique characters fighting in an ariel style
Bid for power was a total mod remake of Quake 3, and was originally designed to use Dragon Ball Z characters. the mod team ran into licensing problems as the nearly completed mod met with success and some notoriety. As a result, the mod team was forced to repopulate the game with original characters without changing game play much. The game diverts from its Quake III base material completely and changes the game play to a arena style fight simulator that has a strong focus on air born fights using powered up mystical attacks. The similarities between Dragon Ball Z and Bid for Power are very obvious, with large power up attacks and huge over the top visual effects.
Game play is fast paced and focuses on an area style confrontation between two characters that involves a ton of air combat. There aren't weapons, instead players use punches, kicks and special ki powered attacks to provide offense and defense throughout the game. the game is 100% multi player, much like Quake III, and have the option to play against AI controlled 'bots' as well. The real problem will be finding someone that's running a Bid for Power server with the same software version as the client that you're trying to connect with. Since the game is a mod and has been heavily modded itself, most of the time people will be playing with different versions. You best bet is to host your own server, or know someone who will be hosting a server in order to play with people that you know. Bid for Power isn't a well known game, its a niche game, so making your own play groups will probably be required in order to get play time.
Being a Quake III mod, the graphics are on par with the Quake III engine. For a mod, a lot of care and attention went into the game so the graphics are professionally done and there is a high attention to detail given to the whole package. This is just an area style game, so there isn't a story or any character development at all. Players choose a character and utilize what they are given.
- Great style
- Open source for modding
